Good to know
- Which files can I compress?
- PDF documents and PNG, JPG and JPEG images. Anything else is rejected with a message naming the file.
- Why is there a size limit?
- Limits keep the tool fast and predictable: 450 MB per file, 20 files per batch and 1.2 GB per batch. They are a deliberate setting, not a hard technical ceiling, and can be raised. Very large files take longer and need enough free memory on your device.
- How much smaller will my files get?
- Best quality aims for about half the original size, Balanced for about a quarter of it, and Smallest size for around a tenth. Files are re-encoded and resized to reach that, so there is real quality loss at the stronger levels — text and pictures stay readable, fine detail does not.
- Why did one file not get smaller?
- Some files are already compressed as far as they usefully go. With the safeguard on, the original is kept and the row is marked “No change”.
